Brittany Baird, Carolee Colter, and LaDonna Sanders Remond have reported and reflected on the data harvested from our compensation database, including calling out that it is woefully out of date when it comes to gender and equity identifiers. The database was created in 2010 and is being refreshed with a new and improved version scheduled to be introduced in April 2021.
Highlights of improvements coming in the next generation compensation database:
-
It’ll be easier to find! We plan to elevate the visibility of the database, with a description and link to the database on the Columinate website.
-
Gender tags in the database will be updated to include trans and non-binary people.
-
New tags will be added so the database can report BIPOC equity issues and progress in the future.
-
While previously limited to data from General Managers, the new database will collect data and report on department and administrative manager roles.
-
The database will accommodate small and non-NCG member co-ops, as well as independent food retailers.
-
The database will be available to groups other than grocery retailers.
Special thanks to Carolee Colter for being the steward of the Cooperative General Manager Compensation Database for many years and to Kate Sumberg of CoMetrics for her invaluable assistance! Thank you to Brittany and LaDonna for adding their perspectives for this report, and to National Co-op Grocers for providing financial support for the equity project and the database.
